Rene Cuevas

Rene was born on February 1st, 1972, in East Chicago, IN. Rene and his brother Ruben surprised the world by entering it as twins. Rene was the son of Frank and Irma Cuevas and the honored brother of eight siblings. Before entering his senior year, Rene joined the National Guard in the summer of 1989 and continued with this until after graduation. He was a proud graduate of Lew Wallace High School, Class of 1990, and served in the ROTC. Rene joined the United States Marine Corp in 1993 and began an adventurous military journey. During his service, he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, where he worked on both military aircraft and ships. He was honorably discharged from the Marine Corp in 2000. From there Rene lived in Florida, Washington, and Arizona before returning home to Hobart, Indiana. Rene had one daughter, the love of his life, Zoe Anastasia, Narvaez Cuevas. Rene was a man who loved God and lived life with passion. Known for his powerful voice, he spoke from the heart, his words always carried weight, leaving those who heard him filled with respect and love. He had a romantic spirit, a joyful laugh, and a humor that could light up any room. His smile was wide, his heart even wider, and his presence unforgettable. Though his time on earth was cut short, the memories and love he shared will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew him. He is proceeded in death by his both his loving parents Frank and Irma Cuevas. He leaves behind to cherish his memories his daughter, Zoe Anastasia and his six sisters and three brothers, along with many nieces, nephews, one great-niece, and six great-nephews who adored him deeply. Let it be noted that Rene Cuevas lived a life filled with love, laughter, and deep faith. “The lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirt” -Psalm 34:18 Services will take place at Burns Funeral Home & Crematory 701 East 7th Street Hobart, Indiana on Friday, October 17th, 2025. Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 5:00 PM. At 5:00 PM military honors will be performed before the start of Rene’s memorial service officiated by Pastor Rebecca McDowell.
