Born on November 16, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois, Ed lived a life rich in purpose, humor, and love. Ed lived his life with integrity and heart. He proudly served as a police officer and master firearms instructor, earning the respect of everyone who worked alongside him. His dedication made him a natural leader. He continued his career with Norfolk Southern, where he was admired for his strong work ethic, humility, and easy friendship. For forty-five years, Ed shared a remarkable partnership with his wife, Mary. Together they built a life rooted in humor, resilience, and devotion. Their marriage was full of laughter, playful teasing, and quiet love — the kind that doesn’t fade with time but grows deeper with every shared story and every small act of care. Family was at the heart of everything Ed did. He gave his children stability, joy, and the comfort of knowing they were deeply loved and never alone. He showed up in all the ways that mattered. Whether it was with a helping hand, a joke, or slow dancing in the living room, you could always count on him. He found joy in being a dad and grandpa, taking pride in every milestone, every laugh, and every moment spent together. Ed loved to sing and dance, especially with his kids and grandkids, who laughed at his goofy moves and sang along with his Motown music. He was the kind of man who showed up without being asked, meant what he said, and could be counted on no matter what. He was the friend everyone wished they had, the father who always made things right, and the husband whose quiet strength held the family together. His loss leaves a space that cannot be filled, but his love and laughter will echo forever in the lives of those who were lucky enough to know him. He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Poe; his children, Eric, Stephanie (Rich), Sarah (Justin), and Emily (David); and his grandchildren, who brought him endless pride and joy. He is also remembered with love by extended family, lifelong friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
